The Doghouse Ground

The

Doghouse Ground

Why do we need these facilities?

As anybody who has been to our very old pavilion knows, it is not the ideal building to encourage sport or a social area where people can meet in comfort. It is extremely run down 70 years after it was built, it needs replacement for the 21st Century. We are dedicated to keeping our historic Dog House ground alive with 400 years of village sporting life behind it. the new ClubHouse  will provide opportunities for all local people to live a better sporting and social life. Your donations will have a lifetime contribution to our community. We thank all of you for helping us to achieve that.

Sports field facts:

·      The playing field is known as “The Dog House Ground”.

·      July 1738 is the first record of cricket played by a Horsmonden team, making Horsmonden one of the oldest cricketing venues in the World.

·      In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s the great batsman Denis Compton played cricket for Middlesex and England, and soccer for Arsenal. In the summer he would bring his Arsenal team mates to Horsmonden and they played cricket against the village team. Can you imagine that happening today? Three thousand people attended the first match!
